Dr. Jitin Singla: Shaping the Future of Computational Biology
Dr. Jitin Singla is an inspiring force at the intersection of biology, computation, and innovation. An Assistant Professor at Indian Institute Technology (IIT) Roorkee, he holds a joint appointment in the Departments of Biosciences and Bioengineering and Computer Science and Engineering. He leads the Computational Cell Structural Biology (CCSB) Lab, where he pioneers cutting-edge computational methods to decode the molecular architecture of cells.
A B.Tech. Graduating from Indian Institute Technology (IIT) Roorkee, Dr. Singla pursued his M.S. and Ph.D. in computational biology at the University of Southern California (USC), with a focus on cryo-electron and soft X-ray tomography. He has since collaborated on groundbreaking projects like “World in a Cell”, bringing pancreatic beta cells to life through immersive virtual reality.
Before returning to India in 2021, he served as a postdoctoral scholar at USC and a research affiliate at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). His work spans applied machine learning, structure-based drug discovery, and healthcare innovations—from neonatal jaundice estimation to antiviral drug development.
Through visionary research and global collaborations, Dr. Singla is building bridges between virtual worlds and biological realities, driving scientific progress and inspiring the next generation of innovators.
