Our Story

India House is a vision rooted in deep reflection—on the challenges of the present and the needs of the future.
We believe that building a better India requires more than just passion; it demands a unique combination of knowledge, skills, and leadership qualities. At India House, we nurture individuals who embody integrity, resilience, and a deep sense of purpose—leaders who can navigate the complexities of governance and drive systemic, transformative change.
Our journey is a continuum of learning and action. It began in 2014 with Vision India Foundation—a movement to nurture future-ready leaders. This evolved into the Rashtram School of Public Leadership, where we cultivated leadership for public good, and later, the Sewa Fellowship, focused on fostering grassroots changemakers. Together, these initiatives laid the foundation for India House and continue to inspire its work.
Over the past decade, we have collaborated with over 2,000 young leaders, trained 10,000+ youth, and partnered with 120+ government agencies, civil society organizations, and academic institutions. From engaging with the Prime Minister’s Office to enhance governance frameworks to empowering Sarpanches to deepen democracy at the grassroots, we’ve embraced challenges across all levels.
Our strength lies in our people and partnerships. Our team brings rich experiences from multilateral agencies, government bodies, private corporations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and grassroots initiatives. We are privileged to be guided by the mentorship of senior leaders and experts from diverse fields who share our vision and help steer our mission.
India House is not just a place—it is a movement for change. Systemic. Enduring. Impactful. We are dreamers and doers, working relentlessly to create a brighter, stronger India.
Our Inspiration
In 1905, Shyamji Krishna Varma created India House in London, with the support of freedom fighters based in India like Lala Lajpat Rai and Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
India House acted as a learning and leadership centre, which offered scholarships to nationalist students studying in London and acted as an incubator for inspirational leaders and transformative initiatives of the Indian Freedom Struggle.
Leaders like Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Bhikaji Cama, Madan Lal Dhingra and Senapati Bapat studied and got together at India House.
Major initiatives that took birth in India House included India's first globally unfurled flag, Indian Sociologist, the first global newspaper advocating India's right to independence, and the first book documenting the 1857 War of Independence.
